History
Our roots are in the Dutch Reformed Church, which was transplanted to North America shortly after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth. It was subsequently renamed the Reformed Church in America. The word "reformed" points to our heritage in the Reformation, the 16th century church renewal movement that radically altered the direction of the church beliefs. Leaders of the Reformation, like Luther and Calvin, opposed what they saw as corruption in the Roman Catholic Church, but did not intend to start a new church. They wanted the Church to be reformed according to the Word of Christ.
Trinity accepts three Creeds as authoritative expressions of Biblical faith.
- The Heidelberg Catechism
- The Belgic Confession
- The Canons of the Synod of Dort
The above-mentioned creeds have been summarized into a shorter creed which is included frequently in our worship service:
- The Apostle's Creed
